FAQs

About Our Services

What does Hidden Hands Workshop do?

We specialise in the conservation and restoration of paintings, textiles, and objects. Our work combines careful treatment with practical solutions to ensure artworks of all kinds are preserved for future generations. Whether you are an individual, family, or organisation, we provide expert support to help you care for what matters most.

Will you make the artwork look like new?

Not every piece should look brand new - and often, that’s not the best outcome for long-term care. Our approach is always tailored: sometimes the goal is to stabilise damage, other times to refresh the appearance while preserving history. We’ll work closely with you to decide what feels right for your work.

How long will the treatment take?

Most projects are completed within 2-4 weeks. Larger or more complex treatments may take longer, but we’ll provide a clear timeline so you know when to expect your artwork back.

Is my artwork safe while in your care?

Yes. Artworks are stored in a secure, climate-stable environment when not being worked on. We handle every object with the same level of care and confidentiality, whether it’s a museum piece or a personal heirloom.

Pricing & Quotes

How do I get a quote for a conservation job?

You can email us with photos of your piece and a short description of the work you’d like done. From there, we’ll arrange a time to chat - by phone, or by appointment at our South Yarra studio. We also regularly meet clients in Geelong, making conservation services accessible for regional collections as well as Melbourne-based clients.

How much does it cost?

Every artwork is different, so we don’t use a fixed price list. Smaller projects generally begin at around $400, with final costs depending on size, materials, and complexity.

Getting Started

Where are you located?

Our studio is based at Como House in South Yarra, with a secondary studio in Geelong for regional clients. Visits are by appointment only, so please get in touch to arrange a suitable time.

Do you offer transport or collection services?

We understand that artworks are often fragile or difficult to move. While we don’t provide in-house transport, we can recommend trusted fine art couriers and guide you on safe packing and handling to ensure your piece arrives securely.

I’m not sure if my piece is worth conserving. Can I still contact you?

Absolutely. The personal and cultural value of a work is often just as important as its market value. We’re happy to discuss pieces of any size or condition - whether it’s a cherished family heirloom or a larger collection. Send us an email, and we’ll advise you on the best way forward.
